Stress is a normal part of everyone’s lives. We all deal with it one way or another, but how much is too much? And what is it actually doing to our bodies?

In this workshop we will:

– Identify the physical effects of stress on the body

– Practice a variety of poses that will calm the nervous system and relieve stress

– Understand the role nutrition plays in combating stress, including specific foods to avoid when stress levels are high

– Experience breathing techniques and simple meditation practices that will help bring the body and mind to balance

Betsy Porter has been a Nurse Practitioner at Parkland Hospital for the last 18 years, where she worked in Geriatrics and Palliative Care. She integrates her extensive medical knowledge with her kind and gentle spirit to offer a whole body approach to health and wellness. She is a certified Yoga Instructor and has recently retired to share her love of yoga with several communities, including teaching at Lotus and working with breast cancer patients at Parkland.

Christy Maskeroni has been working in the world of health and wellness for over 10 years. She is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), certified Yoga Instructor, and Personal Trainer. She believes the key to long-term health and enjoyment is through an integration of lifestyle components including good food, movement, and breath. She is a teacher at Lotus and is excited to share her insight with the community.

Angela Prior is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Yoga Teacher Trainee at Lotus. She is set to complete her teacher training this fall. Angela is the owner of Mind and Body Dallas, a holistic private practice located in the Lakewood neighborhood. She believes in a holistic approach to health and wellness, and incorporates this mindset into her life and her practice. She has been facilitating mindfulness meditation groups for over 6 years and is excited for the opportunity to begin teaching yoga.
